Making Maple Syrup

During 5th graders' spring visits to Roberts Farm, we learn about the maple syrup production process. Students learn about tree anatomy, the science behind sap, and how to forecast when the sap will run. Students also practice identifying Sugar Maple Trees in the winter based on a tree's bark, branches, and buds.

During their hikes on the snowshoe trail, students help us transport sap from "Maple Grove," an are of Roberts Farm Preserve that is full of big, beautiful Sugar Maple trees which were tapped by the Roberts Family a hundred years ago. And lastly - students are able to sample the syrup we produce at Roberts Farm!
